Summary:

Tomorrow’s High Street is a collaboration between architecture students and the Sheffield Civic Trust. The brief of the project was to look at the future of Sheffield’s High Street and provide the Civic Trust with a vision for the development of the area. We were asked to provide the missing link between the general public and the City Council so that everyone can take ownership of their future High Street.

The project vision for Sheffield’s centre is to celebrate its long linear historical route tied together by a ‘series of pearls’. These pearls are a series of ‘conversation-starter’ interventions leading from Moorfoot to the Wicker Arches, including use of the alleys as revitalised play and rest spaces. The Moorfoot building and Wicker are the project’s ‘bookends’ – and tying them to the neighbourhood High Streets at Spital Hill and London Road.

The Live Project team created tailored outputs for the Trust through an events kit which would enable them to communicate their ideas for the future of the High Street and help others join the conversation. These included a vision video, posters, postcards and booklets as well as an app to help the vision reach a wider audience and continue the legacy of the live project.
