Live Projects 2017 + Theatre Deli presents The Umbrella Factory, a playful, cross-disciplinary project exploring the links between drama and space, through the medium of immersive theatre.

We are proud to have been working with Theatre Deli on their new venture into the city, and were working to resolve a set of issues linked with a move to new premises on the Moor. Already a well-established theatre company in Sheffield, we proposed a series of playful investigations to resolve issues surrounding the move of location, and to publicise and engage further with the local community. We worked in tandem with our two clients, Seb, the venue manager, and Sarah, the programmer and producer to unpick these three main strands to the project: Outreach, Building Strategy and Intervention.

Following on from our initial explorations, we began to interrogate these issues raised by the client. To which we present the PROP – the Pink Rollable Operating Pop-up, our intervention is used to facilitate a new level of dialogue by engaging with new audiences in the community and re-interacting with those familiar to the work of Theatre Deli. As a team, we decided to provide a meaningful intervention into the physical building. Working from a two phase approach, we renovated the yard using upcycled materials found on site. This acts as a catalyst for our client to innovate in the subsequent spaces. Building strategy proposals such as foyer arrangements and options to the new bar are also handed over to inspire our clients.
